The National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) offers a range of scholarships for international students aiming to pursue their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees.

Facilities of National Tsing Hua University Scholarships

  • Full Scholarship (Type A):
    Monthly Stipend: NTD 5,000 (approximately USD 160)
    Tuition Fee Waiver: Covers tuition, miscellaneous fees, and credit fees
  • Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship (Type B):
    Tuition Fee Waiver: Covers tuition, miscellaneous fees, and credit fees

Requirements of National Tsing Hua University Scholarships

  • Applicants must comply with the Ministry of Education’s regulations regarding international students in Taiwan.
  • Priority is given to master’s and doctoral programs.
  • Students must maintain a minimum academic average and demonstrate good behaviour.
  • Official documents must be written or translated in English or Chinese.
  •  Showing financial sustainability (NTD 120,000 or USD 4,000).

Q: Could you introduce yourself and your academic status?
I am Abu Sayed, a Bachelor student in Software Engineering at NTHU, currently in my third year. My home country is India.

Q: Does the scholarship provide food facilities?
No, the scholarship does not cover food facilities. I have to manage my food expenses by the stipend only. I cook myself, it saves my cost effectively.

Q: Can you bear your daily expenses by the stipend provided by the scholarship?
The stipend of NTD 5,000 (USD 160) is sufficient to cover my daily expenses, including food and transportation. But recently because of the price hike in Taiwan, I have to maintain my budget carefully.

Q: Should I learn Chinese to do a part-time job?
Yes, learning Mandarin can be very beneficial for securing part-time jobs in Taiwan.Basically students can do local part-time jobs here. Most customers are local people and they aren’t familiar with English much.

Q: Is the University environment student-friendly?
Absolutely, NTHU has a very supportive and inclusive environment for international students.

Q: What types of problems do you face in your day-to-day life?
The main challenge is the language barrier, especially in off-campus interactions. I can comfortably use the English language on campus as well. But talking with local people requires the local language.

Q: Did you have any special strategies to stand out in the application process?
I focused on presenting my research potential and securing strong recommendation letters from my professors. I think my extracurricular activities help me to stand out in applications.

Q: What tips would you give to students who are considering applying for this scholarship?
Prepare well, highlight your academic and research achievements, and ensure your application is complete and submitted on time. If you are in study in your country, try to attend extracurricular activities.

Q: Is Mandarin hard to learn?
Mandarin can be challenging, but with consistent practice and effort, it is manageable.

Q: Is it very hard to continue the courses in Mandarin?
Well, the courses at NTHU are mostly in English, so it is not difficult to keep up with the coursework.
